I really enjoyed this film. The story was gripping, intense and well told. The characters were also very good and it was easy to get attached to them. Before watching the film, we looked at non-linear storylines. This was film was a perfect example of a non-linear storyline. The film mostly takes place in the main character's, Joel, mind. He is having the memories of a woman he once fell in love with wiped from his memory. There is a lot of going back and forth in time in the film. It often cuts back to the point actually with Joel in the room whilst his memory is getting deleted. The film required a lot of attention however. If you was to take your eyes off the screen or stop listening for under a minute you will be very confused as to what's going on. Luckily though, I was too gripped to take my eyes off of it. Non-linear storylines done well are very fun to watch, it helps us get background knowledge on characters and allows us get to know them better. The film was very dis...

After today's lecture with Umut, I gave some thought into what I want my essay to be about. We looked at Humanism today and the discussion about A.I really interested me. The film, Bicentennial Man, will be great to write about. It is a story about a family who buy a robot but as the robot begins to experience emotions, it desires to become human. Us humans are trying to make A.I more intelligent and human-like. I am going to write about how the Bicentennial Man is treated within the family and what that could mean if a robot that advanced was around today. How would we treat the robot?

I really didn't enjoy The Princess Bride. It wasn't my sort of film. I couldn't get invested in the characters and the story. I didn't really like the plot of the film either. Before watching the film, we looked at Character Architypes. The hero in the story is introduced at the start of the film as a farm boy called Westley. He is speaking to a character called Buttercup who is the maiden, love interest and Damsel in distress. Westley leaves the farm and goes off find fortune so they can marry. His ship is attacked the Dread Pirate Roberts and everyone thinks that he is dead. A number of years later, Buttercup is forcibly betrothed to Prince Humperdinck, the ruler of the story. Buttercup is then kidnapped before the wedding by three outlaws. They are called Vizzini, Fezzik and Inigo Montoya. Westley must save his love and make sure the wedding doesn't go ahead. I understand that they tried to do a stereotypical story with a twist but for me, it just wasn't tha...
Die Hard Film Review

I really enjoyed Die Hard. I thought that the film had a great structure and it was gripping throughout. I liked the way that the whole film took place in one area. A lot of films are filmed in various different locations and sometimes it's hard to keep up with it all. I'm not the biggest Bruce Willis fan. I think that he is a very inflexible actor however I really liked how he portrayed his character, John McClane, in this film. Allan Rickman's character, Hans, was very believable and I liked his overall character. I thought that the relationship between John and Sgt. Powell was also very well done and important. The two got along and experienced a very difficult time together. Throughout, Powell stuck up for John, making out that he is a hero, even though at that point in the film, the two hadn't met in person. At the end, when the two see one another they give each other a meaningful nod. In this film, there is a clear five act structure to it. Before watching this ...
